Why we build on Astro, not WordPress

If you have been researching website platforms, you have probably heard of WordPress. It powers a huge chunk of the web, and for a long time it was the default choice for small business sites. But the web has moved on, and so have we.

Speed

Your site loads fast. Really fast.

WordPress builds your page every time someone visits, pulling content from a database while your visitor waits. Astro works differently. Your pages are pre-built and ready to go the moment someone clicks. The result is a site that loads in a fraction of the time, which matters both for first impressions and for Google rankings.

Security

It is significantly more secure

Most WordPress hacks do not happen because someone is targeting you specifically. They happen because WordPress sites are everywhere, and attackers run automated tools looking for common vulnerabilities, outdated plugins, and weak admin passwords.

Astro takes a completely different approach. Your content and your website are kept separate. The part visitors see has no database attached to it and no traditional login page. Many of the common vulnerabilities associated with traditional CMS platforms are removed. This approach is sometimes called headless architecture, and it meaningfully reduces the attack surface compared to a typical WordPress setup.

Maintenance

No plugin anxiety

WordPress sites need constant maintenance: plugin updates, theme updates, security patches. Skip one, and you can be exposed. There are far fewer moving parts in an Astro build and far less ongoing maintenance than a typical plugin-heavy WordPress setup.

What about template builders?

Renting versus owning

Both are perfectly reasonable ways to get something online quickly. If you need a basic presence this weekend and you want to do it yourself, they work. But they come with a ceiling.

You are renting space on their platform, using their templates, within their rules. SEO control is limited. Design flexibility runs out fast. Template-based platforms can make it harder to create highly customised, high-performing websites as your business grows. You also pay a monthly fee indefinitely, for something you are tied to rather than own.

Ownership

You own your site outright

When you pay for your rebootd. build, you own the code. Not a licence to use it, not a subscription to keep it running: the actual files, yours to keep.

That means you can host it wherever you like. Developers can deploy an Astro site to any modern hosting platform. If you ever want to move away from rebootd., hand it to another agency, or bring it in-house, a developer can pick it up and take it from there without rebuilding from scratch.

It is the difference between renting and owning. Most website platforms sell you a rental. We hand you the keys.

Portability

Can someone else manage my site?

Yes. Astro is a modern, widely used open-source framework. Any competent web developer can pick up and work on an Astro site. You are not locked into rebootd., and you are not locked into an obscure proprietary system. The skills and the code are transferable.

How it compares

A faster site keeps visitors on the page. A secure site protects your reputation. A low-maintenance site means you are not dealing with unexpected problems six months after launch. And a site you own outright means you are never at the mercy of a platform, a subscription price rise, or a company deciding to change its rules.
